Choosing your care home.

We are not all the same, so therefore, care is not a one size fits all, so it is very important that the home you choose is right for your care needs. At Altham Care we offer person centered care around each individual, developing a care plan based on an individual’s care needs.

Most people are uncertain about the criteria when they first start looking for care for a loved one, or even for themselves.

At Altham Care, we offer the following types of care:

Residential Care.

Residential Care is for people who can no longer live independently at home and need assistance and support with day to day living. We offer this in a safe, caring environment. This will include accommodation, meals, beverages, cleaning and laundry services, and ‘personal care’. Personal care can include such things as assistance in getting up or going to bed, eating, washing, dressing, and assistance using the toilet.

Dementia Care

This is a more specialist area of care, where more support, reassurance and help is available whilst encouraging independence. Often family and relatives, who care for people, may find long term care invaluable, knowing that loved ones are being cared for in a safe and caring environment.

Respite and Day Care

When you are caring for a partner or relative, re-charging your batteries is vital, more often than not, carers are not given consideration. Using respite care, you can take a much earned break for a few hours to do the shopping, or even a few weeks a holiday, we are always flexible to help you have a well earned rest. Respite care can be booked up to 12 months in advance.

There is a varied range of activities within the home, which all residents are welcome to take part in.

If we are not currently contracted with your local council, don’t worry, we can assist you to arrange funding with them. We also accept respite care vouchers.

Our Fees

Our fees are based on the level and type of care needed, and fall into a few different categories. These are, residential and dementia care, and lower and higher rates.

Our fees are normally quoted once a full care assessment has been carried out. Our fees for 2011/2012 range from £365 to £520 per week.

Extra Charges

Our fees cover most things, but not everything; extra charges will be made for newspapers, toiletries, hairdressing, trips and outings etc.

You are welcome to have your own telephone; satellite TV in your room, but, you will be responsible for any call charges, line rental, subscription charges etc.

All rooms have a TV Ariel, and can receive a digital Freeview signal.

Our Caring Staff

Any care home is only as good as its staff, and therefore, these are our most valuable assets. All our staff have undergone a rigorous selection process, a minimum of two references have been obtained and verified, a full criminal record check (CRB) has been obtained and verification that the applicant is not on the INDIPENDENT SAFEGUARD AUTHORITY (ISA) register.  Common inductions, in accordance with the Care Standards Act 2003, are also carried out prior to anyone starting work, and completed within 12 weeks of them starting.

Once they have started work, training begins. All our care staff are either NVQ2 qualified or working towards the award. They are encouraged to gain higher qualifications that are relevant to their posts, many of our care staff are now working towards NVQ levels 3 & 4, and management training, as well receiving full training in health & safety. They are also trained in moving and handling, dementia care, fire safety, infection control, nutrition, medication (accredited), safeguarding adults, recognizing abuse and food hygiene.

By investing so much time and resources into our staff, the result is that we have a way below average staff turnover, which in return means that we can offer a more consistent level of care to our residents, as well as exceeding the standards expected by the Care Quality Commission.

Any more questions?

We have tried to answer as many frequently asked questions as possible. If there is something we have missed or something else you would like to know, or even something you think other people would find useful for us to mention to others, please let us know, and we will do our best to find out for you.
